Summer Fun for Less!

Summer is in full swing here in North Florida with sweltering hot days and afternoon rains, we all can use some tips on doing all the fun summer things on a budget. Here are some of our favorite ideas for summer entertaining, rainy days and beach days on a whim.

Emergency Beach Kit:

Living so close to the Atlantic can mean spontaneous beach trips – or unplanned pool invitations from friends. Be ready for all outdoor adventures with a cute beach bag loaded up and ready to go! We found a ton of great beach reads, sunnies, (brand new!) headphones and big floppy hat at our Jax Beach location. Just add sunscreen and keep this in your trunk for an impromptu summer outing!

Outdoor Entertaining:

Throwing a party in the summer doesn’t need to break the bank or your nice dishes! Head to a Goodwill and grab plastic dishes, metal serving dishes or even cloth napkins you can use other places. Think outside the box and grab items for multiple uses; a big metal bucket can hold pool towels or cold drinks and glasses can also be used to hold utensils and napkins. When you keep this in mind, you’ll find so many more party supplies for your stash.

TIP: Shop with a theme or color scheme in mind but don’t try too hard to ‘match’ things. You could get lucky and find a full set of hibiscus dishes, but mixing up some flamingo or starfish items will give you an overall summer look!

Rainy Days:

Rain is a constant of our summer afternoons but we shouldn’t let that mean we drop in front of the TV and binge watch all the shows we missed during the school year. Grab a few fancy outfits or costumes and create a dress-up closet for the kids, get a new book (or 5) for your teen and grab a copy of your favorite childhood game for a family game night when the weather keeps you in. We always have a great variety of indoor activities for the whole family at all of our 20 locations in North Florida.
